Power Rangers Prime was a strong launch of this new continuity. Does a terrific job immediately setting out what different differentiates it from the TV show and boy oh boy is it a lot. At the same time, though it’s still using elements from both recent comics and the show and remains recognizably Power Rangers. If you’ve ever been curious at all about these comics, this is 100% the perfect jumping on point. This pitched as ultimate Power Rangers and one issue in it’s living up to that idea with style to spare.

I swear to God I actually felt my soul leave my body when I was looking at this panel and I almost accidentally crumbled up the issue HOW DARE YOUUUU

Ernie absolutely, undoubtedly, 100% knows that the Power Rangers are those kids that are tight as any children that have passed through his youth center, ever--they’re color coded and not at all subtle about making excuses when monsters attack, come on--but will never, ever say a word about it until they tell him themselves. But Bulk and Skull are his favorites. It’s wrong, and he will never not be grateful for every catastrophe that the Rangers have diverted, or class they’ve taught to kids that need the lessons and encouragement and attention, but... If he had to explain it, it would come out incredibly badly, but it was a little like when he went to an animal shelter to provide Trini with volunteers that needed something to do and were willing to learn. The Rangers were a little bit like puppies or kittens that had a history written down, and a pedigree, and all of their shots, and were adorable and easy to train and easy to love and would therefore find Forever Homes almost with absolute certainty. Bulk and Skull were like the animals that were slightly older, had once been housed, had been dropped off at the shelter without an explanation, and that usually had some behavioral issues. Aggression among other animals, bad habits like getting into things they weren’t supposed to or getting out of the yard; or hiding under the house and hissing at the very idea of being touched because of bad experiences. Didn’t have their shots and would have probably been euthanized in shelters that didn’t have a no kill policy. They didn’t need the pity and could (mostly) take care of themselves, but it was hard for Ernie to tamp down on the urge to give them a home. It wasn’t much, but the Juice Bar was the best he could do.

Skull and Bulk are at again! This time I digitally sketched and color them. I like to occasionally color things digitally with a pencil like brush because it can be relaxing sometimes 😮‍💨 Anyways I love these two, and I love adding piercings to them.

Teenage superhero groups are so good. Not only because they're always really fucking relatable, but also because their relationships are so special. They're like:

“I met you, and I was weary of you at first. We've become closer and closer to the point we trust eachother with our lives, but still not with our identities — it's sad, but it's how it is.

You've cried to me about how your mentor didn't listen to you, about how they yelled at you and didn't seem to care enough. I've cried to you about how my life is so lonely, about how being a hero is taking away my life, about how I can't be a teenager anymore because I can't rest without feeling like someone will die because of me not being there.

We've fought together, and we've fought eachother. We've cried together, laughed together and yelled together. We've saved the world together. We were never meant to be apart.

The other day, you were brainwashed and turned evil. You were tortured, striped away of your own being. We tried to help you anyway, even if our mentors told us not to. We still spent hours shopping for a birthday gift you'd like a few months later.

We're slowly growing up, and we're leaving the safety of our mentors's cloaks. We're going through different paths; always down, always falling, but not as together as we were before.

Some of us have found our own proteges. I'd like to say I'm better with mine than my own mentor was with me, and I hope you are the same.

Our proteges have found eachother the same way we did. The happiness from seeing me in your face was everything I needed to be convinced to stay with you.

We've been getting the others to come back, too. We're also recruiting new people, new young heroes who will get themselves killed if they're not guided properly. We're not the same young kids anymore, but we're together once again, and that's all that matters.

We grew up very quickly. I can see it from the way we don't laugh as much anymore, from the way we're the one attempting to stop the younger ones from pulling pranks on us, from the way we train instead of being trained.

We're all adults now. There was a time where we lost ourselves, and we wouldn't find us anymore. A time where I went to our old lair and saw it empty, devoid of life. A time where I tried to call you and you didn't answer. A time where I saw you on TV, with a kid by your side, looking at you like you're their entire world.

We're adults now. We've lost ourselves many times. But we've found eachother again. And I think that's what matters. Because we're not only teammates anymore; we're family.”
